g. Captain Article

I was asked recently to write a piece of g Captain, and given all the different angles of shipping and the leaders I know in the space, it was a little difficult to pin point how I would approach the article. But after some thought it was easy.

Given the resurgence of world trade I thought it would be great to catch up with Gerry Wang, CEO of container leasing shipping company, Seaspan (NYSE: SSW). Remember, container ships are a great barometer of the economy. For Gerry he doesn’t care what’s inside the containers they move, it’s the volume that matters to him. But for you the investor to know what’s inside those containers as well as the volume of those boxes you can get an even better indication on the health of the economy. Based on what’s inside you can see if consumers are trading up buying more luxury products or trading down.

As Gerry said to me in “Dynasties of the Sea” he loves leading on the container highway. Enjoy 🙂
